General Professional Background

Andrew Goode is a shareholder of Bishop | Barry and a member of the firm’s Insurance Coverage and Bad Faith Litigation Defense Department.  Mr. Goode specializes in insurance coverage advice and disputes, and the defense of complex insurance bad faith litigation.  His experience encompasses a wide variety of insurance related matters, including insurance coverage analysis and litigation arising from multi-million losses under commercial property, builders’ risk, and ocean marine policies in connection with computer failures, theft of trade secrets, fire, earthquake and land movement claims, building construction issues, cargo theft and damage, and loss of business income claims.  Mr. Goode further specializes in the investigation and handling of suspected fraudulent insurance claims.

Andrew Goode also has experience in coverage analysis and litigation of environmental clean-up claims under property and Commercial General Liability policies involving governmental and third party contribution claims arising from Superfund and state cleanup enforcement activities, including acting as National Coordinating Counsel for a large casualty and property insurer to ensure consistent claim handling and coverage analysis of standard form language on state and nationwide basis.  Mr. Goode’s environmental coverage experience extends to submitting amicus briefs on behalf of insurance carriers in environmental litigation pending before the California Supreme Court, including Montrose Chemical Corp. of California v. Admiral Ins. Co.(1995).

Experience and Academic Background

Prior to joining Bishop | Barry in 2002, Mr. Goode maintained a similar practice as Special Counsel for The Wuerfel Law Group in San Francisco, and acted as Western Regional Counsel for Year 2000 claims for a national property and casualty insurance carrier.

Mr. Goode received his B.S., cum laude in Psychology and English from Tufts University in 1983, and his J.D. from Golden Gate University in 1986.  He was an Associate Editor with the Golden Gate University Law Review in 1985-1986, and the author of Comment: Antipsychotic Drugs: Regulating Their Use in the Private Practice of Medicine, Golden Gate University Law Review, Vol. 15, No. 2 (1985).  Mr. Goode was also the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award for Contracts.

He is a member of the Defense Research Institute and the State Bar of California.

Mr. Goode is admitted to practice before all courts in the State of California, as well as all U.S. District Courts of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit.
