General Professional Background

Ms. O’Brien joined Bishop | Barry in 2017 as an attorney in the firm’s Construction, Toxic Tort, Professional Liability, General Liability and Civil Litigation practice groups.  Before joining Bishop | Barry, Ms. O’Brien was a senior associate at Wood, Smith, Henning & Berman, LLP.  She has represented public entities, businesses, and individuals in a variety of legal matters including wrongful death, professional liability, premises liability, personal injury and construction defect litigation.  Prior to entering the legal profession, Ms. O’Brien had a successful career in catastrophe insurance claims adjustment.

Ms. O’Brien graduated from the UC Davis School of Law where she earned the Public Service Certificate.  While at UC Davis, Ms. O’Brien was an intern at the California Attorney General’s office and at the Solano County District Attorney’s office.  She was the Communications & Circulations Editor of the UC Davis Journal of Juvenile Law & Policy, the Prosecution Liaison for the King Hall Criminal Law Association, and a member of the Trial Practice Honors Board.  Ms. O’Brien also worked as a research assistant for Professor of Law, Dean Rex R. Perschbacher on the third edition of the United States Legal System, An Introduction.

Ms. O’Brien is a board member of the Contra Costa County Bar Association Women’s Section and the School Site Council at Morello Park Elementary School in Martinez.  She also serves as Vice President of the Martinez Community Swim Team.

Ms. O’Brien holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern California, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Davis School of Law.

Ms. O’Brien is a member of the California State Bar, California Women Lawyers, and the Alameda and Contra Costa Bar Associations.  Ms. O’Brien is also a member of the Defense Research Institute.

Ms. O’Brien is admitted to practice before all courts in the State of California and at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
