General Professional Background

A Southern California transplant who has lived in Oakland for over 30 years, Ned graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1980 with a degree in English. While holding down a full-time job, Ned obtained his J.D. from the University of San Francisco where he received the highest grade in Insurance Law. While attending law school, he clerked for his long time employer, Southern Pacific Transportation Company and then for the City and County of San Francisco’s City Attorney’s office. He joined the California bar in 1990.

Rated “AV” by the Martindale Hubbell attorney review service, and having been involved in numerous civil jury trials and binding arbitrations over his 30 year career in the law, Ned is well respected amongst peers on both the plaintiff and defense sides. He enjoys managing a diverse civil litigation practice, which includes construction litigation, construction defect defense, advising contractors, personal injury involving construction and premises liability litigation.

Ned has been involved in several appellate cases with several published and unpublished decision. His published decisions are Bradley v Breen, (1999), 73 Cal. App. 4th 798, [86 Cal. Rptr. 2d 726], and Cohen v. Five Brooks Stable, (2008) 159 Cal.App.4th 1476, 1483, [72 Cal.Rptr.3d 471].

Ned is a member of the State Bar of California, and he is also admitted in the Northern, Eastern District Courts and the Ninth Circuit. He is a member of Claims and Litigation Management (CLM) Alliance.

Having played rugby in college, Ned now coaches high school rugby and runs the City of Piedmont Recreation Department’s touch rugby program.
